Striped Bass![]() Striped bass are rarely found more than several miles from the shoreline. Anglers usually catch stripers in river mouths, in small, shallow bays and estuaries and along rocky shorelines and sandy beaches. The striped bass is a schooling species, moving about in small groups during the first 2 years of life, and there after feeding and moving in larger schools. Only females greater than thirty pounds show a preference for becoming rogue fish or solitary individuals. Live lining herring, pogies, mackerel and eels can e very productive and provide the angler with plenty of action and braggin rights for the winter nights to come. Bait fish are hooked through the snout or the back with a single or treble hook. Lines and terminal tackle are determined by the preferences of the angler and the task he id trying to accomplish. Some of the popular lures include plugs, both surface and diving, jigs, tubes and umbrella rigs. Large bass can be steaked, then baked, broiled or grilled. Back to Seasons Page |
