Fishing Reports
6/26/2007
Last week, fishing was excellent. Blues came in early and hard Tues through Sat from Wood Island up to UNE. Stripers are still in the river and are strongest up towards the dam. There are still herring in the river for live bait fishing and the pogies are abundant near cocktail cove. Ground fishing, on the other hand, was not so good as there are too many nets near the ledges. I'll try to write another report next week.

Went out today to find the bait today. It's been tough to find for the last 3-4 weeks. The water temp has been extremely warm. (Yes there are still plenty of stripers around.) Everyone has been searching for bait; lobstermen, fishermen and anglers. Fortunately, because of the recent tropical storm passing off the Cape Cod coast Sat, it has pushed some bait this way. No bookings today so I took the time to research and find bait. I was successful. In talking with other guides who went offshore, I now know that shark and tuna season has begun. A friend landed two 12ft blue sharks today in less than 6 hours. Hence, time to get out the big gear into shark and tuna fishing this week.

Fished offshore today at Jeffries, Northeast ledge. Had fair success with cod, haddock and cusk. Fished yesterday at Tanta's, Southwest ledge, with little success. There was not enough wind to create enough drift. Consequently, fishing was spotty at best. Went inshore from Biddeford Pool to Scarborough marsh, not marking many fish.

Today we went out and fished the river from the narrows down to the mouth. Our arms are killing us. We caught over 100 stripers using artificial baits. The 4th of July weekend has been very productive inshore.

took a couple of offshore trips tis week to tanta's ledge. had some success using cod jigs with teasers . we caught cod and haddock early and it tapered off from there. we steamed back to the saco where we caught a few stripers using the tube and worm rigs and some jigging minnows clored pearl white with red eyes. more later.

Went out this morning around 6a.m. fished up by the dam in saco for about 1/2 an hour with little results, so my buddy john headed down the biddeford side and ran into few schoolies near marblehed then continued down river. I went down to camp ellis and started getting schoolies with worms. Another gent caught a few slots. The water is still silty from all the rain but fishing from shore was rather productive. Meanwhile, john was slaying schoolies near hill's beach. We finished around noon...so shore fishing was pretty good today. Hope to get the boat in this week to be ready for Memorial day. Hope the weather holds.
